Welcome to Brighton Lure Boats May Round-Up. We had a frustrating start to the year, March and April proved hard work, weather gods not playing ball, but we had some good Pollock when we could get offshore the biggest of these fell to regular anglers with us Martin 9lb plus fish the best to date.
Then the waters started to murk up, the dreaded May Rot that would hinder the inshore fishing severely, sporadic days of clear waters then mushed up like pea soup.
We decided to ditch the inshore marks for the time being and concentrate on a few further marks. Those that were offered the choice, had some fantastic quality Bass.
This proved to be the right way to go and this carried us through the whole of May, we had plenty of new people aboard and the biggest Bass of the year so far Nick, first time out with us, 70 cm silver bar! Tony’s first time out with us, he had never caught a bass he had 4 on first trip, the biggest of those 62cm.
Other notable fish by our regulars, 65cm/63/60cm fish all returned, other species got in on the act 4lb plus wrasse, a first for us, 8lb plus Smoothound and first and hopefully last Dogfish which lassoed itself.
We look forward to June and Neptune and the weather Gods give us the seas we long for.
